Symptoms

• Cruise control warning lamp on or flashing
• adaptive cruise control disabled or unable to engage
• Set/Resume buttons unresponsive
• loss of distance-keeping function
• collision mitigation warning messages
• sensor fault messages on the display
• multiple driver-assist warning lights may appear together.

Probable causes

• Sensor blocked by snow
• ice
• heavy dirt or a poorly placed license plate frame (most frequent cause per sources)
• sensor misalignment after a minor front-end impact
• curb strike or previous incorrect repair
• internal sensor circuitry failure producing erratic or missing signals
• corroded wiring/connectors from moisture and road salt
• CAN-bus/module communication failure
• outdated software/calibration rejecting valid readings.

Diagnostic steps

1. Connect a scanner that supports manufacturer-specific codes, confirm P2583 and note related codes and freeze frame data.
2. Visually inspect the front radar sensor (typically behind the front emblem/grille or under the bumper) and thoroughly clean the sensor face; remove any obstruction such as a plate frame, ice or dirt.
3. Check for evidence of front-end impact and verify sensor mounting/alignment; realign or recalibrate per manufacturer procedure if disturbed.
4. Inspect the sensor harness and connector for frayed wires, cracked insulation and corroded terminals; clean and repair as needed.
5. Review live data for sensor output to identify signal loss.
6. Run a CAN-bus communication test to determine whether the fault is module-level.
7. Check for software/calibration updates and perform module re-initialization or reprogramming.
8. Replace the sensor if internal failure is confirmed; replace the control module only if communication tests still fail after all other repairs.
