Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1)

Probable causes

1) Faulty intake manifold runner position sensor. 2) Faulty or worn runner actuator/linkage - on VW/Audi engines wear in the manifold flap mechanism is a common root cause. 3) Carbon buildup in the intake causing the flaps to stick or move outside the expected range. 4) Wiring or connector issues in the sensor circuit. 5) Stuck intake manifold runner/flap.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Scan for P2015 and related codes; on VAG vehicles read measuring blocks/actual vs specified flap position with a capable tool (e.g. VCDS per Ross-Tech guidance).
  2. Visually inspect the runner position sensor, actuator, linkage and connector for damage, disconnection or wear.
  3. Check the sensor wiring for opens, shorts and corrosion.
  4. Actuate the manifold flaps (key-on or via output test) and watch whether the reported position tracks the command; a lazy or stuck response indicates mechanical binding.
  5. Remove and inspect the intake for carbon buildup; clean the flaps/runners with intake cleaner if fouled.
  6. On VW/Audi with worn flap linkage, sources report a repair bracket kit can fix the mechanism without replacing the whole manifold; otherwise replace the position sensor or the intake manifold per service information.
  7. Perform any required adaptation/recalibration of the runner control after repair, clear the code and confirm it does not return.
