Diagnostic steps

  1. Read all of the codes with a scan tool to see if there are others.
  2. Use the scan tool to force the EGR valve on.
  3. Disconnect the EGR harness.
  4. Using a multimeter, measure the wire running to the EGR valve โ€” it should read around 5 volts.
  5. Check for shorts if reading shows 12 volts.
