Symptoms
- Low-power engine operation such as idling and cruising may or may not be affected
- high-power engine operation such as heavy acceleration and high speed may be severely debilitated
- abnormal forced-induction noises
- exhaust smoke
- elevated engine temperatures
- erratic boost pressure gauge readings (if equipped)

Diagnostic steps
- Verify engine condition; replace fouled spark plugs if needed.
- Inspect all air intake hoses, intercooler lines, and vacuum lines for leaks and secure connections.
- Check turbocharger-to-intake flange connection for leaks.
- Clear codes and retest.
- Connect boost gauge and snap throttle to 5,000 rpm to measure pressure.
- Based on readings, diagnose wastegate operation or perform electrical voltage testing on sensor circuits.
