Turbocharger/Supercharger Overboost Condition

Symptoms

  • Power loss ranging from mild to severe (especially if inlet ducting ruptures or separates)
  • detonation noises resembling bearing knock particularly during acceleration
  • engine overheating even from slight over-boost (potentially leading to cylinder head gasket failure or transmission overheating)

Probable causes

  • Defective MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor
  • damaged wiring/connectors in the MAP sensor circuit
