Symptoms
- ABS warning light illuminated
- potential loss of ABS and traction/stability control function
- in some failure modes hydraulic pressure can become trapped
- causing the brakes to drag and overheat.
Probable causes
- Faulty master cylinder pressure sensor (electrical fault)
- damaged wiring or connectors to the sensor
- contamination or damage from brake fluid leaks
- corrosion or debris buildup on the sensor
- fault within the ABS system.
Diagnostic steps
- Retrieve codes with an OBDII scanner and confirm C1246 is current.
- Inspect the pressure sensor, its wiring, and connectors for damage, corrosion, and brake fluid contamination.
- Test the sensor output with a multimeter to verify it sends a plausible signal to the ECU.
- Perform a brake system inspection, checking for fluid leaks and dragging/overheating brakes.
