ABS Inlet Valve Coil RF Circuit Failure

Symptoms
- ABS warning light illuminated
- loss of ABS and traction/stability control function
- abnormal braking behavior
- increased emergency stopping distances and higher risk of wheel lockup on slippery surfaces. Basic (non-ABS) braking remains functional.
Probable causes
- 1) Faulty right-front ABS inlet valve solenoid (internal coil open or shorted). 2) Damaged or corroded wiring/connectors in the RF valve circuit. 3) Electrical open/short between the ABS control module and the RF inlet valve coil. 4) On GM and Ford vehicles
- a failed internal EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) relay is the primary cause. 5) Low battery voltage or a poor EBCM ground connection can trigger false module faults.
Diagnostic steps
- Read chassis codes with a capable scanner and note the manufacturer-specific definition for the vehicle.
- Test the battery — sources call for a minimum of 12.6 volts — and clean the main EBCM frame ground connection to bare metal before condemning any expensive module.
- Visually inspect the ABS wiring and connectors at the hydraulic unit for damage and corrosion.
- Test the circuit between the ABS module and the RF inlet valve for opens and shorts.
- If wiring, power and ground all check good, the fault is internal to the ABS module/EBCM (frequently the internal relay on GM/Ford) — replace or have the module rebuilt.
- Clear codes and road test to confirm ABS operation.
