Symptoms

• ABS warning light on
• traction control and stability control warning lights on
• with those systems disabled or overactive
• speedometer or cruise control irregularities on some vehicles
• possible premature or unwanted ABS activation/pulsation at low speeds if the signal is intermittent or noisy.

Probable causes

• 1) Failed left-front wheel speed sensor (internal damage or contaminated encoder). 2) Circuit issues in the left-front harness: damaged/chafed wires
• corroded connectors
• poor connections. 3) Damaged reluctor (tone) wheel or damaged magnetic encoder in the wheel bearing seal. 4) ABS module problems
• including outdated software (occasional).

Diagnostic steps

1. Connect a scan tool, confirm C0035 and check for related codes; monitor live wheel-speed data comparing all four wheels at steady low speed - the faulty corner reads erratic, zero or diverging.
2. Inspect the left-front knuckle area: sensor seating, debris, and the harness/connector for chafing, corrosion, water intrusion or loose terminals.
3. Test the sensor per its type: measure sensor resistance against the service-manual spec, or back-probe/lab-scope the signal to verify quality and voltage per OEM specification.
4. Inspect the reluctor wheel / bearing encoder for rust, cracks, contamination or missing segments; check wheel bearing play.
5. Replace the sensor if faulty - sources note this is the most common fix and should clear the code; repair wiring or encoder/bearing as found.
6. If sensor, wiring and encoder all check good, suspect the ABS module input circuit or software (check TSBs). Treat as high priority - ABS/ESC protection is compromised.
