Symptoms
- Airbag (SRS) warning light illuminated on the dashboard
- potential non-deployment of the passenger-side pretensioner/airbag protection in a collision — the seatbelt system may not properly restrain the passenger during a crash.
Probable causes
- 1) Faulty passenger buckle pretensioner (high internal resistance). 2) Damaged wiring harness in the pretensioner circuit. 3) Loose or poor electrical connections

Diagnostic steps
- Read SRS codes with a diagnostic scanner and confirm B1706.
- Inspect the wiring harness and connectors of the passenger buckle pretensioner circuit (under the passenger seat) for visible damage, wear or loose connections.
- Measure the pretensioner circuit resistance with a multimeter and check whether it falls within the acceptable range for the vehicle.
- Repair the wiring/connections if high resistance is found there; replace the buckle pretensioner if the component itself is out of specification.
- Clear codes and verify the SRS light goes out. This is a safety-critical restraint component — treat the repair as a priority.
