Lamp Headlamp Input Circuit Short To Battery

- Headlights staying on constantly (even when switched off)
- flickering or dim headlights
- headlights not working at all or working intermittently
- other electrical issues affecting exterior/interior lighting
- warning light illuminated.
Probable causes
1) Short circuit in the headlamp wiring (harness open or shorted to battery). 2) Defective headlamp bulb or component. 3) Poor electrical connection in the headlamp circuit - corroded or damaged connector pins. 4) Faulty headlamp switch. 5) Defective Body Control Module.
Diagnostic steps
- Confirm the code with a scanner capable of reading body codes.
- Visually inspect the headlamp bulb and its connections.
- Examine the headlamp wiring harness for damage, chafing against battery-voltage sources, and corrosion.
- Check all connector pins in the circuit for breaks, bending, or corrosion.
- Test voltage and continuity of the headlamp input circuit with a multimeter, looking for a short to battery voltage.
- Test the headlamp switch.
- If wiring, bulb, switch, and connections check out, suspect the Body Control Module. Note: driving with this code is not recommended because headlamp malfunction compromises visibility.
